Homework
HOMEWORK IS IMPORTANT |
Homework in the early years has its own character. By definition, it is a required assignment to be completed outside of class. Homework is designed to reinforce concepts learned at school and provide students with essential practice in a skill area. It develops self-discipline and self-direction and stimulates responsibility. Other added benefits are enriching classroom activities, preparing for classwork and encouraging the carry-over of worthwhile school activities into permanent leisure interest. As your child moves through the grade levels, you should keep these homework goals in mind. The length of time required to complete assignments will vary according to the nature of the assignment and the individual differences of students. The suggested length for second grade is 20 minutes. You can be supportive with homework by: Helping your child understand the directions. Providing a study area with proper lighting and no distractions. Writing a note to the teacher if your child has extreme difficulties completing an assignment. Checking over your child's homework each night. |
